Sun shading systems play an important role in conserving energy in residential and commercial buildings, as well as improving the wellbeing of users. They reduce cooling loads and maintain a pleasant room temperature without impeding visibility to the outside.

The best possible use can be made of daylight at all times without distracting reflections and glare. With Schüco AB ZDS and Schüco Integralmaster sun shading systems, the building envelope specialist is rounding out its sun shading product portfolio with two roller blind systems that combine energy efficiency, comfort and design in a tested, all-in-one system.

External sun shading

Schüco AB ZDS (Aluminium Blind ZIP Design Screen) is an external, textile roller blind system that is electrically operated and fully integrated in Schüco window and façade systems. The sun shading system is only visible when sun shading, glare protection or screening are required, so that the outside appearance of the building is unaffected. The profile-integrated lateral guide tracks make the sun shading extremely resistant to weathering and stable in wind speeds of up to 25 m/s. The ZIP guide and the drop bar weight allow a smooth fabric appearance even under high wind loads and prevent the blind from being dragged out of the guide track.

The ZIP design applies a zipper closure to the fabric lying within the guide track. Obstacle detection in both winding and unwinding directions provides additional security and prevents the sun shading from being damaged. For perfect integration into the design of the façade, the fabric collection includes a total of 50 material and colour combinations. Transparent materials, which allow sun shading and the best view to the outside, are a significant part of the collection, as well as being extremely resistant to weathering and fire. Special fabrics provide opaque alternative options that can also be combined with ZDS. Up to twelve square metres of window area can be shaded with the sun shading system.

Schüco AB ZDS impresses with its easy installation, as the sun shading is delivered as a single unit including the guide tracks. During installation, the ZDS unit is simply pivoted into position as a pre-fabricated and insulated blind box, thereby significantly reducing the need for drilling and screws. Depending on the choice of blind box, the colour of the guide tracks and aluminium plate on the rear side of the box can be selected to match the unit or plastered for a uniform appearance in building interiors. The Schüco AB ZDS sun shading system can be integrated in the Schüco AF UDC 80 unitised façade system and now also in the Schüco AWS 50, 75 and 90, AWS 90 BS and AWS 75 PD aluminium window systems.

Internal sun shading

Schüco Integralmaster is an internal roller blind system, which is popular on the market, and can be perfectly integrated into the glazing beads of Schüco aluminium window systems. A new solution includes integration in Schüco mullion/transom façades, with the façade transom housing the roller blind system. The advantage of a profile-integrated sun shading system is that it is only visible when sun shading, glare protection or screening are required, so that the outside appearance of the building is unaffected. At the same time, the sun shading is resistant to wind and weathering by virtue of being fitted internally, markedly reducing the cleaning and maintenance requirements for the system. Thanks to its special design, Schüco Integralmaster combines glare protection, sun shading and thermal insulation in a single system.

It is therefore possible to reduce glare by up to 97 percent and energy irradiation by up to 85 percent. An unrestricted view to the outside is possible with the sun shading depending on the choice of material. In façade systems, Schüco Integralmaster is operated electrically using a 24 V DC SMI motor. Mechanical operation via a chain hoist is also an option when integrated in Schüco window systems. The roller blind system is designed as a single structural unit. Together with the simple plug-in solution, Integralmaster can be quickly installed in mullion/transom façades without the need for additional wiring work. The Schüco Integralmaster sun shading system is available for the FWS 50 and FWS 60 façade systems as well as the Schüco AWS 70, 75 and 90 window systems.

Schüco also offers further sun shading systems such as the external aluminium roller blind system Schüco CSB (Concealed Shaped Blind) and the dynamically tinted SageGlass glazing in collaboration with Saint-Gobain.
