The new product of the Zobel coating experts, for the first time presented at this year’s ‘Fensterbau Frontale’, targets the industrial coating sector. The main focus here is on process-optimised work methods and better protection against moisture. Due to the low temperatures on winter building sites, ventilation and drying pose a particular challenge. Huge amounts of water are used, especially when plastering walls or laying screed, and these need to be dissipated. Even in the most favourable conditions, it may take weeks for everything to dry completely. This is where Zowo-tec® 485 Top Coat comes into its own thanks to its lower water absorption and early water resistance. Its optimised water barrier minimises the risk of moisture-related discoloration and protects the frame-corner connection. » Top marks for processing easeZowo-tec® 485 has a high level of solids, approx. 50%, to guarantee a fast and sustainable layer structure. The solids in the top coat are based on a balanced mix of film-forming binding agents, white pigments and functional filling materials, which is reflected in the excellent resistance and good coverage. The viscosity is designed to avoid paint runs even on complex geometries. Despite this, the flow properties are good even at a thickness of 125 µm. With respect to rheology, Zowo-tec® 485 is trimmed to good atomization and easy pumping.» Wide range of colours and levels of shine Zowo-tec® 485 is available as a white top coat in the colours RAL 9016 traffic white and RAL 9010 pure white. Colour mixes are also available within minutes via the colour mixing system. The level of shine is approx. 35 units in the satin finish range. Also, customer requests for semi-gloss or matt versions of the product can be accommodated. This opens up a wide range of design possibilities for building projects. » Extensively testedTo test the water repellency, the water permeability was determined by an independent testing laboratory in accordance with DIN EN 927-5:2007. In the area of the specified minimum dry-film thickness for opaque coated wooden windows, the water uptake is undershot by values around 130 g/m² consistently below the evaluation criterion of ≤ 175 g/m² for use on dimensionally stable components. To simulate the behaviour of rapid atmospheric change, the coating structures of the top coat were subjected to a cold crack test. Here, coated timber was subjected to a change from wet/hot-air and extreme cold over many cycles without any damage. Zowo-tec® 485 is not classified according to hazardous or dangerous goods legislation.Zowo-tec® 485 is used in coating structures with insulating Zowo-tec® intermediate coatings. A separate intermediate coat is not required for spruce.
