The durability of a coat not only depends on the type of wood and the construction and weather-related factors; the selected colour also plays a particularly important role. The VFF information sheet HO.01 issued by the Association of Windows and Facades classifies the coating systems in terms of expected maintenance intervals. This highlights the problem of light coloured glazes because they are classified as not suitable for direct exposure to the elements as a result of the low pigmentation, which means that these colours normally have inadequate UV protection.UV radiation and oxygen can cause significant damage to unprotected coats and wooden surfaces as a result of radical oxidative processes. The aim is to keep these processes to a minimum to improve the durability of the parts. The acrylate and polyurethane binding agents used on windows and doors offer no protection here because they let the UV radiation through. In many systems, the wooden surface and the coating are only protected by the pigments, as these absorb or reflect the damaging UV radiation. » Additional sun protection for light coloursIn contrast, Zowo-tec® 421 Glaze UV+ contains high doses of UV absorbers and radical interceptors. The UV absorbers selectively filter the damaging UV part of the sunlight spectrum and change this into harmless thermal radiation. The radical interceptors inhibit the radical degradation processes for added protection. Consequently, the product itself can be applied as a clear coat outdoors, provided that a coloured primer is used in the layer structure. » Light colours can be classified in the category for medium colour tonesLikewise, Zowo-tec® 421 Glaze UV+ can be used with pigments. This is particularly recommended by the Zobel coating experts for light colours, such as maple and pine. In line with the colour classification specified in the  VFF information sheet HO.01, the UV protection that works in combination with the pigments changes the colour classification of these colours from ‘light’ to ‘medium’, and the expected maintenance intervals change from ‘unsuitable’ to ‘suitable’.The Zowo-tec® 421 Glaze UV+ also stands out thanks to other advantages, such as early block resistance, hail damage resistance, transparency and brilliance.» Value retention made easy In addition to the durability inherent to the coating system, specifically designed environmentally-friendly water-based care products from Zobel preserve the value of the construction elements. The compact Zobel care set contains everything necessary to maintain the quality of wooden windows and doors: a cleaner, a protective emulsion to compensate natural weathering and to seal micro-factures, a transparent protective glaze to repair small damaged areas and a sponge.
